Trebetherick is a village on the north coast of Cornwall. It is situated on the east side of the River Camel estuary approximately six miles north of Wadebridge and half a mile south of Polzeath.
It is an odd little village in the Parish of St Minver between Rock and Polzeath. The world class beach of Daymer Bay and Greenaway ( a little cove of sand and rocks on the Polzeath side of Daymer) are to be found in Trebetherick, as is St. Enodoc Church. St Enodoc church was once completely covered by the dunes but has been reclaimed and it’s location in the golf links is really quite unique.
Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate, who penned many a poem about this beautiful area, lies in the graveyard at St Enodoc. Trebetherick Point is the outcrop of headland that separates the Trebetherick beaches of Daymer Bay and Greenaway, from that of Hayle Bay and Pentire Glaze Haven at Polzeath. Along this stretch of coast you can still see the rusting remains of wrecked ships as well has old cart tracks, cut through the rock that forms the jagged coastline that juts out from under these lush green headlands. Also to be found here is a small inlet with a cave full of Cornish quartz, but you will have to look for that yourself.
Trebetherick village facilities include a cafe restaurant called The Mowhay, the St Moritz hotel with a restaurant and spa, and local shop. (This has just been sold, and there are promises that it will open again soon).
The village of Trebetherick goes from quiet residential housing that backs on to the golf links and merges with the surfing paradise of Polzeath as you travel down the hill past The Mowhay towards the cliff top Tristram Car Park. To the south of Trebetherick and Daymer Bay, you can see Brea Hill rising between the dunes and beyond the dunes is the resort of Rock.
There is a very good farm shop as you drive towards Rock , just as Trebetherick village comes to an end. It is run By Kathy Hore and sells excellent veg, cakes, milk, cream, butter and also icecreams.
Daymer Bay
Located between Rock and Polzeath, Daymer Bay offers plenty of fun for all ages who come to enjoy the sandy beach and clear blue waters. It is a small child’s paradise, and also a fantastic area for windsurfing and kite surfing. Scenic walks the on the beach and coastal paths between Rock and Polzeath via Daymer, are dog-friendly all year round.
