Just along the road from Trebetherick, and down a very steep hill is Polzeath.
The Oystercatcher pub at the top of the hill is packed in the summer.
Polzeath is a haven for surfers and beach lovers. There are lifeguards on the beach during the daytime in the season. There are several surf schools based there too. Bathers should be aware that the cliffs can be particularly dangerous in bad weather. Although generally a safe beach, there can be large surf with rips and children should not be allowed in the water with inflatables. This is a sand and shingle beach, situated at the mouth of a river and backed by interesting cliffs. There is a nature reserve and some interesting rock pools on the beach. Dolphins are seen occasionally, fishing gannets, terns, and this is a good area for many types of coastal bird including puffins.
The beach almost disappears at high tide, especially when there is a spring high tide and a following wind!
There is a Spar for most shopping needs, and several restaurants. Ann’s Cottage is the go to shop for surfer gear.
